Chapter Four

H aving finally managed to shut off his mind, Dillon crashed just after midnight. Monday morning came too soon but, thankfully, the day passed quickly. He followed up with both Dani and Stacie, thanking them each for a great night and ensuring that Stacie was not suffering any lingering effects from her broken cheek. Classes were flowing without too many issues and he was somehow managing to keep on top of his reading, despite his increased social life. By the time his last class ended and he was heading for the door he was beginning to feel like he had found a groove.

Waiting for him, as he left the lecture hall, was an angry looking female administrator in a black pencil skirt and tight white blouse. The outfit did nothing to hide the extra thirty pounds she was carrying and the horn-rimmed glasses perched on the end of her hooked nose did little to help the ensemble.

“Mr. Strands?” she asked, though it was apparent she already knew who he was.

“Yes, ma’am,” he responded, unsure as to the reason for her inquiry.

“Dean Simmons has asked me to deliver this to you,” she sneered, passing him an envelope. “She also requests a brief meeting if you are free.”

“May I ask what this is in regards to?”

“It’s all in the letter. You can read it on the way,” she responded, turning and expecting him to follow despite not confirming that he was, in fact, free.

Dillon, flustered by the situation, fell into step behind her and pulled the letter from the envelope. The Dean was investigating a reported incident on campus, ie: the Regrettable Hulk attack, and needed to speak with him to clarify a number of items before presenting a formal opinion to the board on what, if any, actions should be taken. Given his near beatdown over the weekend and Stacie’s subsequent broken cheek, Dillon was less forgiving and far more determined to push the matter forward. The only unknown, however, was Dean Simmons. Having never met the Dean, he had no idea of what type of person she was, but he did know that the Watson’s had deep pockets and they were known to use their wealth to bail their son out of any significant consequences.

Dillon decided to use this meeting to size up Dean Simmons and try to determine whether pursuing the matter was worth further antagonizing Andy. If he felt the Dean could be trusted to push for actual retribution, then he would be willing to take things further, but he was not keen on causing himself further issues if Andy’s family was going to, once again, buy his way out of trouble.

“Please have a seat, I will let the Dean know you are here,” said the woman as they entered a large office space just off the science wing.

‘Wasn’t she expecting me?’ thought Dillon, shrugging and taking a seat. Fortunately, he was not required to wait long. After only a couple minutes, the shrew looking woman returned and escorted him down the hall to a small conference room.
